The nudist beach on Fitzroy Island was recently named the best beach in Australia.
Australians have a lot of great beaches, and I haven’t visited them all to see if nudity is the best, but it definitely belongs somewhere near the top!
This guide will tell you how to get there and everything you need to know before you go.
What To Expect: Nudey Beach
Nudey feels very untouched and even on a cloudy day the view in the distance was really nice.
Since it is located outside the mainland, it does not seem to get too crowded either. By the way, the name is a misnomer, it’s not a nudist beach.
Actually, this island is part of the Great Barrier Reef. But what is really special here is the clean white sand, the boulders and the turquoise water.
How To Get To Nudey Beach
Fitzroy Island is located in Queensland, Australia, just 29 kilometers (18 miles) southeast of the city of Cairns, where the Cairns International Airport (CNS) is located. You can find flights to Cairns on Skyscanner.
From Cairns, you can visit Fitzroy on a day trip or camp or stay at the resort. The ferry ride to Fitzroy Island takes just 45 minutes from Cairns and costs AUD round-trip.
From the resort and the arrival area at the jetty, it is only a 20 minute walk (one way) to get to the beach. The road to the beach is well signposted, paved and for the most part quite flat.
Have fun!
